Sleek Vintage Salon Hair Dryers

"QUANTUM SHOT" #831

Chrome Coolness, Gentle Breeze and Space Age Fashion

We love Space-Age vintage salon hair dryers, with their sleek style and unapologetic abundance of chrome. They look even better when coupled with Coke in this 1960 ad, don't you think? (and no, we are not paid by Coke for this endorsement):

Here is another great chrome dryer, just as sleek as the ones above (by the way, their sleek designs prevent dirt and loose hair from collecting, and are easier to clean):

And here are some weirder versions of old hair dryers and perm machines, sporting bountiful wires and sleek rocket shapes:

Hovering, hooded apparatuses, with octopus-like hoses and wires welcome you into the dark of the salon -

They crouch in the dark surrounded by a low humming noise, they reach to envelop your hair with their warm uncaring fingers, to entangle you and keep you sitting still until the hair-setting procedure is finished...

These are more compact setups, one from 1928 (left) and one from 1963 (a vacuum cleaner used as a hair dryer), both looking pretty strange to our modern eye:

Vintage salon hair tools included other strange-looking apparatuses: medusa-like hair straighteners, hair curlers, heat setters, pore openers... This catalogue is from The Illustrated London News, 20 October 1928 -

This is probably the most visually interesting perm machine, a flying saucer-shaped Gabrieleen Silver Queen, made in the 1930s (this is NOT a brain-sucking device):

And finally, here is the whole futuristic hair-drying setup, worthy to be a prop in any 1960s sci-fi movie:
