DRB Pic of the Day: Cold War Jet Fighter

F-80 Jet Fighter in all its Chrome-like Glory!

Dynamic angle, beautiful lighting, streamlined, purposeful shape - this Cold War-era plane looks super-impressive in the desert setting (photograph taken near Pima, Arizona):

Normally I am not a huge fan of HDR, but this photo by Marv Larson really uses the effect to its full advantage, as it works well with the chrome and red paint accents of this streamlined plane.

Here is the Lockheed F-94C Starfire, the final evolution of the F-80/T-33/F-94 "Shooting Star" family:

Speaking about paint accents, here is a bright green nose of the Soviet jet fight from the same era - Sukhoi Su-20 "Fitter-C", seen at the Luftwaffenmuseum in Gatow, Berlin:

More of the happy Soviet Cold War bomber and jet fighter pilots, in these rare photographs:

That is not an F-80. It is an F-94 Shooting Star.

Here are many more pictures of it:

I think it is a F-94C Starfire all-weather interceptor. It was the final model of the series begun with the P-80 Shooting Star. The F-94C had rocket armament in the nose (and in wing-mounted pods) and a radar in the black nosecone. It was manned by a pilot and radar operator. The plane in the photo is likely the example at the Pima Air Museum in Tucson, AZ.
