"QUANTUM SHOT" #443
link

Bug Crime Overlords Gallery

Remember when you squashed that annoying bug? Now you can put a face to it - and it's not pretty.

This rough bunch has pretty unrepentant and seriously vile faces (some even have a sort of evil "mustache"). They drink our blood, and worse! (like this hookworm) -

If we included some innocent bugs among this gallery, then we are sorry (... it would be still hard not to squash them) The names are pretty nasty, too:
- Spiny Assassin Bug
- Predatory Stink Bug
- Cottonwood Borer, Robber Fly etc.

All images are courtesy of The Oklahoma Microscopic Society. See other ugly bugs here

These guys are ugly from any angle:
Antlion (Doodlebug) and House Centipede

There is the whole book of ugly bug faces, on sale at National Georgaphic and a Flickr set. "Bugs in Cyberspace" site collects some very interesting mug shots.

Visual Antidote: Beautiful Insect Faces

Just to give you a visual respite - these are shots proving that insect mug shots can be profoundly beautiful. Check out this blue-eyed beauty:

It's a shame that so many of the faces have been damaged [injuried]...
Think they look beautiful really.

I concur. So many torn legs/antennae! Kind of painful to look at.

oh god! I saw one of those house centepedes in a house in Iowa years ago and was terrified. It looks like something out of the rainforest!
