The Hungry Dog Story

A tragedy, really... "Cut out the stuffing this Christmas!"

Aha! Gotcha.

More Incredible Hills

Some time ago we featured the "Chocolate Hills" (see here, scroll down). This time it's hills in China, even more surreal -

Blooming fields of rapeseed plants weave around hills near Luoping in Yunnan Province.

Yacht concept, worthy of Captain Nemo

Schopfer Yachts present a slideshow of this streamlined wonder ("Oculus") - I am sure Captain Nemo would consider moving in (though he might add some Victorian touches to the decor). Read more info at Rick MacPherson's page.

The Prosthetics Armor

Prostethics, splints and body casts, in a dramatic rendering by Hieronymus Fabricius 'Opera Chirurgica' 1684 - from a wonderful page on Biblio Odyssey:

"Museum of Communism" is pretty tongue-in-cheek

Great promo posters, see more here

Dark Sky Destinations: Best Places to See the Stars

"Intelligent Travel" site has compiled a list of their favorite stargazing destinations. Natural Bridges National Monument, Utah, comes up on top - it was even named the first Dark Sky Park by the International Dark-Sky Association (IDA):

When you need to face Mecca...

A man's gotta do, what a man's gotta do.

Speaking of subways, this is an interesting tidbit of information:

North Korean Art

This teacher is very happy and content - the children are making weapon toys... behind her is a nice slogan: "Long Live the Policy of Army First!"

This painting is very intense: "An eye for an eye!" (click to enlarge) -

Of course, when North Koreans are happy, they are very happy indeed:

Pre-Nazi Germany Bullet Train

What year you think it is? This is 1931.

The Schienen-zeppelin looks amazingly like Japanese Shinkansen bullet trains.

I'm not sure where you see "Long Live the Policy of Army First!" in the North Korean art. On the wall behind her at the top of the bulletin, it says "Our Skill." The arch seen out the window looks like it says "We are happy" although I can't read the final symbol.

Blogger Avi Abrams said...

Yes, Jon, it's visible in the window in the long line - here is the larger version - click
