This wonderful bird was seen at Jones Beach, New York. "Each winter hundreds of birders and photographers travel in search of the snowy owl". Photographer David Dillhoff took this gorgeous photo and it was published in National Geographic's "Your Shot" Gallery:

"Fat Bottomed Icicles", spotted at Lake Superior, Michigan

It seems like the water level was at some point higher (you can see the darker area where the water has been), the ice formed there and then started slowly melting which led to these unusual ice formation:

A Glowing Fire Opal

This is a rare "Fire Opal", or Girasol (more info), found in Mexico: almost a world in itself, emanating mysterious light -

(image via)

"Fire opals are either faceted – that is, as far as their transparency allows – or cut as a cabochon, since this is the shape which best brings out the rich glow of this orange jewel. It is the oval which is regarded as the classical shape for valuable fire opals" - see other instances of found fire opals here
