This wonderful bird was seen at Jones Beach, New York. "Each winter hundreds of birders and photographers travel in search of the snowy owl". Photographer David Dillhoff took this gorgeous photo and it was published in National Geographic's "Your Shot" Gallery:

It seems like the water level was at some point higher (you can see the darker area where the water has been), the ice formed there and then started slowly melting which led to these unusual ice formation:

Currently Under Construction in Moscow-City: The Evolution Tower
Together with the completion of Moscow's "Mercury City" Tower (which at 332 meters is already the tallest European skyscraper at the moment), the Evolution Tower (designed by Scottish architectural firm from Edinburgh) promises to become a truly fantastic addition to the Moscow skyline.

Snowflake Right Before Melting

A Glowing Fire Opal
This is a rare "Fire Opal", or Girasol (more info), found in Mexico: almost a world in itself, emanating mysterious light -

"Fire opals are either faceted – that is, as far as their transparency allows – or cut as a cabochon, since this is the shape which best brings out the rich glow of this orange jewel.
