New Pyramid Skyscraper for Paris
For thirty years, no new towers have been constructed in Paris (partly because Parisians hate the idea, partly because of the height restricting regulation) - but not any more. The mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoe, has been in secret negotiations with Unibail for months, planning this new tower. The architect is Jacques Herzog of Herzog & de Meuron. This tower is hoped to revive international interest in Paris exhibitions.
A narrow, elongated pyramid, it will stand 180 meters high (a little more than half the height of the Eiffel Tower) and have 50 floors. It will feature 20 floors of office space, a luxury hotel, convention centre, shops & restaurants, as well as facilities such as a library, hanging gardens, and swimming pool.

Encounter with Whales
A very cool story and photo gallery in National Geographic about right whales (the "right whales to kill" according to whalers of old), which are endangered in the North Atlantic but flourishing in the South Pacific. Click to read the article and see the photos.

Make sure to read the interview with a photographer - what it felt like to be on the ocean floor when one of these gigantic beasts, as big as a school bus, zoomed over to investigate him up close... Then it swam off, the photographer was huffing and puffing trying to keep up - and the whale stopped and looked back and waited for him, like a dog would. Cute, or not?
